1 . Introduction to communication complexity

چکیده
The model consists of two parties [Yao79], Alice and Bob, holding inputs x ∈ X and y ∈ Y respectively. They exchange messages in order to compute a function f : X×Y → {0, 1} at (x, y); their goal is to do this with minimal amount of interaction, which is some measure of the communication between the two parties and will usually be the total number of bits exchanged by the parties. Figure 1 illustrates this model. The communication between the two parties is guided by a protocol, which specifies how each message sent depends on the input and the messages received previously. In the definition below, we assume that Alice (who has x) sends the first message.

Connections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
متن کاملIntroduction to Communication Complexity
In this essay, we give a basic introduction to the exciting eld of communication complexity. Communication complexity was rst formalized by Yao in 1979 [3]. e context is easy enough to understand: two parties (usually named Alice and Bob) wish to compute the value of some function f of two variables. Alice knows the value of one of the variables, while Bob knows the value of the other. How mu...
متن کاملCS 369 E : Communication Complexity ( for Algorithm Designers ) Lecture # 9 : Lower Bounds in Property Testing ∗
We first give a brief introduction to the field of property testing. Section 3 gives upper bounds for the canonical property of “monotonicity testing,” and Section 4 shows how to derive property testing lower bounds from communication complexity lower bounds. We won’t need to develop any new communication complexity; our existing toolbox (specifically, Disjointness) is already rich enough to de...
متن کاملCS 369 E : Communication Complexity ( for Algorithm Designers ) Lecture # 8 : Lower Bounds in Property Testing ∗
We begin in this section with a brief introduction to the field of property testing. Section 2 explains the famous example of “linearity testing.” Section 3 gives upper bounds for the canonical problem of “monotonicity testing,” and Section 4 shows how to derive property testing lower bounds from communication complexity lower bounds. These lower bounds will follow from our existing communicati...
متن کاملThe effect of knowledge based economic indicators on the countries' economic complexity
Countries’ economic growth and development are significantly dependent on their productive capacity. In this research, we aimed to investigate which components of a knowledge-based economy has a more meaningful role in the production capacity. In order to measure production capacity, we used one of the most up-to-date indexes, the economic complexity index. The research used data panel consist...
